What does PDF stand for?
  • PDF stands for Portable Document Format. Adobe created it and is fast becoming the standard for all document transfers, not just web documents. Formatted properly, PDFs can provide smaller file sizes, eliminate font issues, cross platforms, include formatting features, and carry forward images. They provide as much resolution to the printer as required, provided the source document is of a high enough resolution, to begin with.

What is the preferred file format to send to EverPrint.ca?
  • The preferred file format for Ever Print is PDF. To ensure we deliver you the best possible poster prints, we need your poster design as a PDF.  PDF contains all the information we need as printers to print your posters. A PDF embeds all the fonts, images and layout information into one compact file, ensuring your posters will print as you see them on screen.
  • For different graphics of the same product, please send a multiple page pdf or a zip file containing all the pdf files for that product.

What resolution should my files be?
  • Ever Print recommends a minimum of 125dpi at print size. Print resolution is referred to as DPI – Dots per inch.
  • There are 2 factors to consider when checking the resolution of your images: the measurements of the image and the dpi of the image
  • Whenever possible, work at the actual size. If limitations in your software do not allow this, then work at 50%. If you are designing at 50%, you must begin with or down-sample to no less than 250 dpi for close-up work. Enlarged, this will give us 125dpi, which works very well.
  • Before uploading your order, view your PDF in Adobe Reader (not your design application). Set the view to 100% if designing at 1:1, 200% if designing at 2:1. Pan around and ensure your resolution is acceptable. Please make sure all elements are present and appear as you expect them to. The resolution you see on the screen is what you will get on the printed product.

What to expect from CMYK printing?
  • While we print in CMYK, which has some limitations, we have an excellent colour gamut. Some RGB images may print better than RGB, but unexpected results may sometimes occur. Working in the CMYK colour mode provides the most consistent colours.
  • Our RIP software will match spot colours even better if you name them using correctly formatted Pantone standard names pulled directly from your application’s Pantone approved palettes. Pantone colours will not necessarily provide perfect matches, but they will give the best possible results.
  • Avoid using percentages of spot colours, spot colours in gradients, or having transparencies interacting with spot colour filled vector images. In these cases, try using CMYK colours instead. This is because the RIP software treats the interacting elements as CMYK and the balance as spot creating colour differences.

Why does it take so long to upload my files?
  • There are many factors to file upload times. These include the size of your files, the speed of your computer, the speed of your connection to the Internet, how busy the Internet is at the time you are uploading the file, the speed of our connection to the Internet, the speed of our computer, and how many other clients are uploading to our computer at the time of your upload.

Will my printed job look exactly like it does on my computer monitor?
  • All monitors display colours using RGB colours (red, green, blue). Meanwhile, our printers print full-colour images using the CMYK colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). The RGB colour spectrum is larger than the CMYK colour spectrum. As such, it is possible to create colours in RGB that you cannot make in CMYK.
  • These colours are said to be “outside the CMYK colour gamut.” So if you are working in a photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop and are working in RGB mode, you can create colours that look great on your monitor but are nonetheless impossible to print.

What is a bleed?
  • A bleed is a term used in the printing industry that means printing going right to the material’s edge. When that occurs, bleeds must be incorporated into your file. For example, if you are ordering a 24″ x 36″ poster and there is printing all the way up to the edge of all four sides, you must incorporate a 1/4″ bleed on all sides. In the above example, your file or page size must be 24.5″x 36.5″. If you were to draw guides on your 24.5″x 36.5″ image that were 1/4″ from the edge all the way around, the area outside that box formed by your guides is the bleed area, and that area will be cut off.
  • If you send your file without a bleed, your printing after trimming will be 1/8″ shorter on all sides.
